Homemade acne cleansers are simple, easy-to-make product that uses natural ingredients to help fight oil and dirt buildup on the skin, while the witch hazel reduces the redness of irritated skin. This acne cleanser is fairly powerful for a homemade remedy, so it should only be used on areas of the skin where you are experiencing breakouts. Applying the acne cleanser to skin without blemishes or redness may cause the skin to dry out and become irritated.
Things you’ll need:
- 1/2 cup distilled witch hazel
- 30 drops lavender essential oil
- 10 drops lemon essential oil
Steps on how to make a homemade acne cleanser:
- Combine the witch hazel and lavender essential oil in a sterilized glass bottle. Shake gently and leave to infuse for about one hour.
- Add the lemon essential oil and shake gently to combine.
- Place the mixture in the refrigerator overnight before the first use, shaking gently before the first application and all subsequent uses.
- Apply the mixture by pouring or spraying a bit of the cleanser on clean cotton pad and wiping over problem areas of the skin. Do not rinse with water after application.
Tips & Warnings:
- If your skin is particularly oily, you can reduce the amount of lavender essential oil and replace it with more lemon essential oil. Lemon essential oil is a powerful astringent, which will help to reduce excessive oil buildup.
- Avoid storing or mixing any type of homemade skin care products in an aluminum container, as there is serious concern about heavy metals entering the body through the pores.
This would be a perfect gift this coming Mother’s Day! What do you think?
