My friend asked me on what exactly is difference between digicam and camcorder. She is planning on buying something which she can use to take pictures and record videos. I told her that a digicam (also digital camera or camera for short) is a camera that takes video or still photographs, or both, digitally by recording images via an electronic image sensor. On the other hand, a camcorder, also known as video camera recorder, is an electronic device that combines a video camera and a video recorder into one unit.

As you can see on the definition, I think camcorder is so much better. I also told my friend that in order for her to differentiate a camcorder from digital cameras, it is generally identified as a portable device having video capture and recording as its primary function. I suggested her to read digital camcorder reviews on the net so that she may be able to decide what features are most important for her needs.
